Misaka Mikoto: Japanese Doll
1/4 Scale F:NEX Figure by Furyu
Yoshinori × F:NEX presents the 11th edition of the "Japanese Doll Figure," featuring Mikoto Misaka.
Mikoto Misaka, brimming with determination and energy, has been exquisitely transformed into a stunning and elegant Japanese doll figure. The kimono she adorns is crafted from vibrant yellow-based Yuzen fabric adorned with various floral patterns and a gold leaf motif resembling flowing water. Complementing this are bright green-based Yuzen fabric panels featuring charming floral and avian motifs accented with delicate gold leaf touches. Clasped in her left hand is Mikoto's beloved Gekota purse.
In meticulously selecting the fabric color, pattern, and overall appeal of the kimono, great care was taken. The outer layer of the long-sleeved kimono is a double-layered ensemble made from yellow-based Yuzen fabric, embodying an aura of vitality and lightness. Intricate patterns of various flowers, embossed with a running water motif in gold leaf, lend a lively air to the attire. Peeking from the left sleeve is the inner long-sleeved kimono, crafted from green-based Yuzen fabric, boasting a pattern of flowers and birds adorned with gold leaf accents, evoking an elegant vibe. This design choice, also aligned with Gekota, emanates freshness and tranquility.
The Yuzen dyeing process involves placing a mold with a pattern on white fabric and dyeing only the patterned areas with one color at a time. By employing individual molds for each color and repeating the process, a cohesive pattern emerges. The final product is achieved through a sequence of steaming, color fixation, washing, and wrinkle-smoothing.
In this instance, the yellow furisode required 13 different colors for dyeing, while the green furisode demanded the use of 15 colors. The painstaking dyeing process imbues the fabric with a distinctive deep color, a testament to the dedicated effort and time invested.
The obi, a pivotal element, is crafted from gold brocade fabric featuring a round pattern reminiscent of a coin, set against a blue base inspired by electric shocks. Kinbrocade, a traditional textile intricately woven with gold and silver threads, as well as gold and silver leaf, achieves a multi-dimensional effect through layered weaving. Despite its small size, it replicates the thickness of an actual obi fabric. Created by Bando Shoten, a renowned textile merchant in Kyoto, this opulent fabric boasts a lustrous texture that will complement your vibrant long-sleeved kimono exquisitely.
